Islami Andolon Bangladesh Ameer Syed Muhammad Rezaul Karim, popularly known as Charmonai Pir, has extended congratulations to the successful candidates in the 13th national election and expressed appreciation to all those involved in organising the polls.
In a statement today (13 February), the Charmonai Pir said the much-anticipated parliamentary election was held the previous day. Although there were reports of "irregularities and some disorder", he described the overall process as acceptable and relatively peaceful in the context of Bangladesh's political reality.
He conveyed his sincere thanks to the interim government, the Election Commission and all officials and personnel engaged in election duties for their efforts in conducting the polls.
Rezaul Karim also congratulated the winning candidates and political parties, urging them to honour the commitments they made to voters. He called on the newly elected representatives to remain accountable to the people and to uphold public expectations.
Referring to the July Uprising, he said the sacrifices made by citizens who offered their lives and blood must be respected and expressed hope that the new parliament would reflect the aspirations that emerged from that movement.
