BNP would face danger if Awami League is rehabilitated, says Asif Mahmud
Asif further said, “We have seen how much hardship Khaleda Zia endured in the final days of her life before passing away.
Any move to rehabilitate the Awami League would put the BNP at risk again and create a dangerous situation for the country, National Citizen Party (NCP) spokesperson Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuiyan said today (31 January).
He made the remarks while speaking as the chief guest at the 'March for Daripalla' programme organised by Jamaat-e-Islami at Rahim Uddin Degree College ground in Adamdighi, Bogura, this morning (31 January).
Addressing BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman, Asif alleged, "You are giving positive statements in various places regarding bringing back the Awami League and Sheikh Hasina. We like Ziaur Rahman as a nationalist leader. But he made a mistake. He brought back Sheikh Hasina and re-established her in politics."
He added that the Awami League, which had established "Bakshal" and taken away the rights of the people, "was brought back to the soil of Bangladesh [by Ziaur Rahman]", and that Bangladesh had paid the price for it for a long time.
Asif further said, "We have seen how much hardship Khaleda Zia endured in the final days of her life before passing away. We have seen how your spine was broken during 1/11 through a conspiracy with the Awami League."
Speaking about the referendum, he said voting "Yes" was necessary "to prevent Awami fascism in the country in the coming days."
"The true opinion of the people will be reflected through the referendum," he said.
Asif also said initiatives would be taken to develop Bogura district, which he claimed had lagged behind for a long time due to political reasons.
The programme was presided over by Noor Mohammad Abu Taher, Jamaat's candidate for the Bogura-3 constituency.
