Attempts underway to bring a party to power through 'election engineering': Nahid in Narsingdi
'The chairman of a party talks about a card. He himself doesn't know which one is a family card and which one is a farmer's', says NCP Spokesperson Asif Mahmud
National Citizen Party (NCP) Convener Nahid Islam today (29 January) alleged that efforts are underway to bring a particular political party to power through "election engineering."
"Before the uprising, they gave 31 points for reforms, but now they are not keeping their word. If elected, they will not keep these promises," he said while speaking at an election rally in Ghorashal, Narsingdi.
Drawing a comparison with ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina's past pledge to provide rice at Tk10 per kilogram. "The people of Bangladesh never got the opportunity to buy rice at Tk10 per kg," he added.
Emphasising the need for reforms, Nahid said education and healthcare are the most critical sectors for Bangladesh at present. "If elected, we will carry out reforms in these sectors," he said.
He also questioned public safety under the party he criticised, saying that if a party cannot ensure the security of its own leaders and activists, ordinary citizens cannot expect to be safe under its rule.
Addressing the rally, NCP Spokesperson Asif Mahmud also criticised the party, saying, "The chairman of a party talks about a card. But he himself can't find the card in his own pocket. He himself doesn't know which one is a family card and which one is a farmer's card."
