657 judicial magistrates appointed for election duty from today
The 657 judges of the Bangladesh Judicial Service have been appointed as First Class Magistrates for five days – from 10 February to 14 February – covering two days before polling, the polling day, and two days after polling
A total of 657 judicial magistrates are taking to the field starting today (10 February) to help maintain order ahead of the referendum and the 13th National Parliamentary Election scheduled for Thursday (12 February).
Their appointments have already been completed, Election Commission (EC) officials said.
According to EC officials, the magistrates have been appointed under the powers of the Representation of the People Order, in consultation with the Bangladesh Supreme Court through the Law and Justice Division of the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs.
The 657 judges of the Bangladesh Judicial Service have been appointed as First Class Magistrates for five days – from 10 February to 14 February – covering two days before polling, the polling day, and two days after polling.
During their deployment, if judicial magistrates take any electoral offence into cognisance for trial, they will dispose of the cases through summary trial as quickly as possible.
They will then submit reports on the proceedings to the deputy secretary (law-1 branch) of the Election Commission Secretariat in the prescribed manner.
