26,515 police deployed in capital for election security: DMP
In addition to securing polling centres, striking forces, mobile teams and reserve forces will remain deployed outside, alongside the specialised Bomb Disposal Unit, SWAT, K-9 Unit and crime scene vans.
A total of 26,515 police personnel have been deployed across the capital to ensure maximum security during the national election and referendum, said Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Deputy Commissioner (Media) Muhammad Talebur Rahman.
Talebur shared the information while speaking to journalists at his office on Minto Road this afternoon (11 February).
He said the DMP have taken the highest level of security measures in the capital. "In addition to securing polling centres, striking forces, mobile teams and reserve forces will remain deployed outside, alongside the specialised Bomb Disposal Unit, SWAT, K-9 Unit and crime scene vans."
Talebur said checkpoints and patrol activities have been intensified across Dhaka ahead of the election.
"Maximum efforts are underway to maintain law and order before the polls. Although there is no specific threat, police remain on high alert. We hope the election will be held in a beautiful and fair environment," he said.
Reassuring voters, he added, "You will be able to come to polling centres and exercise your fundamental right without concern, fear, or obstruction."
When asked whether there was any threat or risk, he replied, "We are not anticipating any threat or risk. We are fully prepared, and police are on maximum alert."
