About 54% of Bangladeshi families living in the United States receive government assistance, according to data shared by US President Donald Trump.
In a post on his social media platform Truth Social yesterday (4 January), Trump outlined the percentage of foreign-born immigrant families in the US who receive government support. The US provides various forms of assistance to immigrants, including support for food, healthcare, and housing.
The data covered 120 countries and regions, including all South Asian countries except India. The reason for India's omission was not clarified.
Among the listed countries, Bhutanese immigrant families received the highest proportion of aid at 81.4%, followed by Yemeni families at 75.2%, and Somali families at 71.9%.
Among other South Asian countries Afghanistan was recorded at 68.1%, Pakistan at 40.2%, and Nepal at 34.8%.
