Iran denies reports President Pezeshkian resigned amid dispute with IRGC

Iranian authorities have denied reports that President Masoud Pezeshkian resigned following an alleged dispute with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), dismissing the claims as unfounded and insisting he remains in office.
The reports originated from Iran International, a UK-based outlet, which said Pezeshkian had submitted a resignation letter to Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on Sunday, reports the Indian Express.
According to the report, the president sought to step down because his administration was being sidelined from major decision-making processes, allowing hardline groups within the IRGC to assume greater influence over key state responsibilities.
Iranian officials rejected the claim.
Seyed Mehdi Tabatabaei, deputy head of communications in the president's office, dismissed the report on social media, describing it as a continuation of "ridiculous media games" by a "disreputable foreign network."
He said Pezeshkian remained committed to "serving the people."
Tasnim News Agency, which is affiliated with the IRGC, also cited an informed government source as saying that the president had not resigned and was continuing to carry out his duties.
The reports surfaced against the backdrop of longstanding speculation about tensions between Iran's elected government and the country's military-security establishment.
Some observers and media reports have suggested that, while Iran's senior leadership formally oversees major state affairs, a group of influential figures with longstanding ties to the IRGC, including veterans of the 1980-88 Iran-Iraq war, plays a significant role in shaping national policy.
Iranian officials have consistently denied claims of internal divisions, maintaining that the country's leadership remains united.
No official announcement indicating a change in the presidency has been issued by Iranian authorities.
