Modi meets Iran President Pezeshkian on sidelines of BRICS Summit
The two leaders met for the second time in less than two weeks as they discussed developments in West Asia
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian in New Delhi today (11 September) on the sidelines of the BRICS Summit, with the two leaders discussing recent developments in West Asia, including the US-Iran conflict.
According to an official readout issued by India, Modi reiterated New Delhi's position that all issues should be resolved through dialogue and diplomacy.
He also stressed the need for continued efforts to ensure lasting peace and stability in the region, while safeguarding freedom of navigation and commerce through the Strait of Hormuz and the safety of seafarers.

This was the second in-person meeting between Modi and Pezeshkian in less than two weeks. The two leaders had earlier met on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit in Bishkek on 31 August.
During today's meeting, Modi thanked Pezeshkian for Iran's regular, high-level participation in BRICS-related meetings despite the challenging circumstances.
He also noted the potential for BRICS to strengthen the spirit of resilience, innovation, cooperation and sustainability among countries in the Global South.
Pezeshkian is in New Delhi to attend the BRICS Summit. It is his first visit to India since the US-Iran conflict began in February.
The BRICS Summit is scheduled to begin in New Delhi tomorrow, with leaders of member countries set to discuss economic cooperation, trade and global affairs. India is hosting this year's summit.
