UK-US trade talks advancing with 'good progress': Starmer
It is the beginning of a new era, he says

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said they are taking a calm approach towards US President Donald Trump's announcement of sweeping tariffs on all imports, BBC reports.
"We are taking a calm approach, acting in the national interest". The trade talks with US have made 'good progress'," Starmer said in a news conference today (3 April).
He said they will work closely with the sectors most affected by the announcement.
"A trade war is in nobody's interest in my view," he says, but stresses that all options remain on the table.
The UK prime minister said his government is acting in working people's "absolute best interest".
"We are trying to get a better outcome, but people need to understand this is an 'important moment'."
"It is the beginning of a new era," he said.
Starmer further said they have to adapt and go "further and faster" in building more strength and resilience into the economy.
Earlier in the day, Starmer said he would only strike a deal with Donald Trump "if it is in our national interest and if it is the right thing to do for the security of working people, protects the pound in their pocket that they have worked hard to earn".
He also said nothing was off the table, adding, "our intention remains to secure a deal".
