UK must learn to live with Covid: Boris

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson says the UK is continuing to make progress in the fight against Covid but "we cannot delude ourselves" that the virus has gone away.

The UK PM told the Downing Street briefing there was nothing in scientific data to suggest the UK would have to deviate from the road map out of lockdown, reports BBC.

But he said the majority of scientific experts say there will be another wave at some stage this year and the UK must learn to live with this disease.

He announced a new taskforce to find "promising new medicines" to treat Covid-19 by autumn. He tells the briefing it is hoped people will be able to take a pill or tablet at home to "stop the virus in its tracks"

Besides, India will be on the UK international travel "red list" from Friday amid fears over a new variant.

Johnson said the Indian variant is still "under investigation". He says banning travel to the country is on a "purely precautionary basis" but there were already measures for people coming from India which were "very tough indeed".

Pubs, restaurants, gyms and non-essential shops will reopen in the country on Monday.
