Trump’s accomplishments as the US President

In its near 250-year history, there have been quite a few one-term presidents in  United States (US); most left with more dignity than one of the most controversial US Presidents - Donald J Trump.

George HW Bush negotiated the peaceful reunification of Germany in his single term as president. Though losing a few American lives, he liberated Kuwait.

Jimmy Carter deregulated passenger aviation. He revised rail freight, shipping, and trucking laws, setting the groundwork for the new delivery system in America. Through his Panama Canal Treaty, he prevented a big crisis in Central America.

William Howard Taft also accomplished plenty. It was his Justice Department that destroyed the monopoly of Standard Oil. Taft urged Canada to free trade and signed the treaty that ended a century of rancorous conflicts over North American waterways.

For the economic growth of his first three years, Trump took a lot of credit, but the economy was already rising strongly when he took office. While Obama left Trump a successful economy, Trump is simply handing a wreck to his successor.

After four years of Trump's reign comes to an end with Joe Biden in line to take his spot, we cannot help but wonder aside from all the controversy Trump has caused, aren't there any good things he did during his term as the President of the US?

Coal burning reductions

Even though in 2016, Trump promised as a candidate that the US will burn more coal soon. Instead, in each year of his administration, US coal use decreased.

The US burned 586 million tons of coal in 2019, a decrease of almost 50 percent from the 2007 high and a decrease of almost 15 percent compared to 2018.

Israel–United Arab Emirates peace agreement

President Trump transferred the US embassy in Israel to Jerusalem and suggested a peace plan that would substitute immediate Palestinian statehood with economic growth.

Traditional observers feared that ethnic strife would be sparked by Trump's policies. Instead, the area has cooled down, if anything. Diplomatic ties with Israel were formed first by the United Arab Emirates, then Bahrain and Sudan, and most recently Morocco. Now it's possible to fly directly to Dubai from Tel Aviv, overflying Saudi Arabia.

Reshaping the federal judiciary

The reshaping of the federal judiciary will be Trump's most enduring influence on the nation. So far, for lifetime appointments, Trump has installed three Supreme Court justices and 220 judges total to the federal bench.

He has named 53 judges to 13 US circuit courts in four years. To put this in perspective, in his two terms in the White House, former President Barack Obama named 55 circuit judges.

Space Force

Trump formally created the sixth branch of the US Armed Forces, the Space Force, by signing a $738 billion defense spending bill just a few days before Christmas. Since the US Air Force was established in 1947, the Space Force is the first modern military service.

Tax reform

Trump's signature legislative accomplishment remains a Republican reform bill three years into his presidency that made sweeping improvements to the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, the tax code. In three decades, the legislation was the largest revision to the tax code of the country.
