Trump says Iran agrees to forgo nuclear weapons, signals fresh talks this weekend
"We're going to see what happens. But I think we're very close to making a deal with Iran," he said.
US President Donald Trump has said Iran has agreed not to develop nuclear weapons, expressing optimism about ongoing negotiations and the prospects of a long-term agreement.
Speaking to reporters at the White House, Trump said the deal under discussion could extend "beyond 20 years" and described the outlook as "looking very good."
"We're going to see what happens. But I think we're very close to making a deal with Iran," he said.
He added that the next round of talks with an Iranian delegation could take place over the weekend, reports Al Jazeera.
Trump also said the recently announced ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon includes Hezbollah, suggesting broader involvement in the truce arrangement.
The US president further said he plans to meet Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Lebanese President Joseph Aoun, although no specific timeline for the meetings was provided.
The remarks come amid ongoing diplomatic efforts to stabilise the region and revive negotiations surrounding Iran's nuclear programme.
