Security outside Mamata's residence scaled down
The move came a day after Mamata refused to resign in the wake of her party's resounding defeat in the poll.
The security outside the residences of West Bengal's outgoing chief minister Mamata Banerjee and his nephew Abhishek Banerjee were scaled down today (6 May), two days after the ouster of the 15-year-old Trinamool Congress government in the assembly elections.
Additional police deployment outside their residences on Harish Chatterjee Road, Kalighat Road and Camac Street in south Kolkata have been scaled down, Indian media reports said.
The move came a day after Mamata refused to resign in the wake of her party's resounding defeat in the poll.
Some of the security setups like scissor barricades were replaced by manual guardrails yesterday, said a police officer aware of the developments.
While 188A Harish Chatterjee was the residence of Mamata Banerjee, 121 Kalighat Road was the party's headquarters. Abhishek Banerjee's office was located at 9 Camac Street.
"Only the Z+ [the highest category] security will remain. The extra police personnel, who were deployed beyond the Z+ category security, were withdrawn," said the officer.
An internal memo, ordering the trimming of security cover, was issued by the Joint Commissioner of Kolkata Police (HQ) yesterday.
