Trinamool Congress (TMC) chief Mamata Banerjee moved the Calcutta High Court today (16 June) by filing an election petition challenging the result of the recent Bhabanipur Assembly constituency election in Kolkata, where she was defeated.
Mamata lost the seat to BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari by a margin of 15,105 votes. Suvendu later became the chief minister of West Bengal's first BJP government.
TMC sources said Mamata visited the High Court registry to sign documents related to the election petition challenging the result.
The counting of votes for the West Bengal Assembly election took place on 4 May.
The BJP secured a landslide victory in the assembly elections, ending 15 years of TMC rule in the state.
