Judicial custody of 2 CJP leaders extended by two days
Extension comes amid CJP allegations that bail proceedings were deliberately delayed to prevent the release of the two youth leaders.
The judicial custody of Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) leaders Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka was extended by two days today (19 October) after they were produced before a court in Delhi, an official said.
The two co-convenors of the youth-led pressure group were taken into custody after allegedly climbing over a locked gate to enter Jantar Mantar, which was denotified as a designated protest site in central Delhi last week.
They were initially sent to five days of judicial custody on 13 October for defying restrictions to stage a protest at the site.
The latest extension comes amid allegations by CJP that proceedings on their bail petition were deliberately delayed to prevent their release.
On Sunday, the Special Executive Magistrate hearing their bail plea claimed to have received threats from unidentified people. Police subsequently filed a non-cognisable report over the matter.
Today, the bail plea was heard by a newly appointed Special Executive Magistrate, who ordered the extension of Das and Ranka's judicial custody by two days.
