India successfully tests 3 consecutive trials of very short-range missile system
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said the missile system can soon be inducted into the armed forces.
India has successfully conducted three successive flight-trials of the Very Short-Range Air Defence System (VSHORADS) in neutralising high-speed threats flying at varying speed, range and altitude, the country's defence ministry announced last night (27 February).
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said the missile system can soon be inducted into the armed forces.
During all the flight-tests conducted from the Integrated Test Range (ITR) in Chandipur off the coast of the Bay of Bengal, the missiles intercepted and destroyed high-speed aerial targets mimicking enemy aircraft in various threat scenarios meeting all extreme engagement points, the ministry said in a statement.
The tests were carried out by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) in the final deployment configuration, where target acquisition and missile firing were carried out by field operators.
The flight data captured by various range instruments like telemetry, electro-optical tracking system and radars validated the effectiveness of VSHORADS against a wide range of aerial threats.
VSHORADS is a man-portable air defence system designed and developed indigenously.
