India's top beef exporter donates Rs30 crore to Modi's BJP

India's leading buffalo meat exporter has donated Rs30 crore to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in 2024-25, marking its largest political contribution to date. 

The donation comes even as the industry remains politically sensitive, with cow protection a central concern for Hindutva groups.

According to a report of Scroll.in, the contribution coincides with a historic surge in India's beef exports, which crossed $4 billion in 2025, the highest since 2018.

The Rs30 crore donation was routed through four of the Allana Group firms – Allanasons Private Limited, Frigerio Conserva Allana Private Limited, Frigorifico Allana Private Limited, and Indagro Foods Private Limited. Previous contributions were far smaller, including Rs2 crore in 2023-24 and Rs2 crore in 2013-14.

The industry has faced intense scrutiny. In 2019, over 100 Allana-linked locations were raided by the Income Tax Department, which alleged nearly Rs2,000 crore in tax evasion, reports The Siasat Daily. 

At the same time, operations in states such as Uttar Pradesh were repeatedly disrupted as vigilante groups targeted meat traders, often singling out Muslim workers. 

Yet, despite these raids and regulatory pressures, the company's political donations have continued to flow.

Internationally, the company has continued to expand. Following China's 2019 crackdown on illegal meat trade, exports to Islamic countries such as Egypt and Malaysia doubled in 2024-25, with Egypt now India's second-largest destination for buffalo meat.

Government facilitation has further aided the sector. In January 2023, India encouraged Indonesia to import more buffalo meat, while October 2024 guidelines for halal certification streamlined exports to West Asia, Turkey, and Singapore.

In 2024-25, the Allana Group's revenue reached Rs10,320 crore, reflecting both domestic resilience and strong international demand.
