Modi recalls brutality of 1971 Liberation War

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has recalled the brutality of 1971 Liberation War saying it was a time when the Pakistani army was torturing, oppressing and slaughtering the innocent citizens of Bangladesh.

"Women were inhumanely tortured. This notoriety of the Pakistani army exposed Pakistan's hideous face to the world," he said adding that Pakistan's horrible face was revealed to the world.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday visited Jaisalmer in Rajasthan to celebrate Diwali with Indian soldiers stationed at the border. This is the seventh year in a row that he celebrated Diwali with jawans.

Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) Bipin Rawat, Army chief MM Naravane and Border Security Force (BSF) Director General Rakesh Asthana also accompanied him in Jaisalmer.

While addressing the jawans at Longewala, PM Modi first greeted them Diwali and asserted that he has brought well-wishes from every citizen of the country.

"As long as you're there, this country's Diwali celebrations will continue to be in full swing and luminescence," he said.

To divert global attention from all this, Modi said Pakistan attacked their western borders.

"Pakistan thought that by attacking India's western border it would be able to wash away all its sins in Bangladesh by blaming India. But Pakistan was humiliated by the appropriate response by our soldiers," he said.

Modi said, "Now, as the 50th anniversary of the 1971 War and the Battle of Longewala draws nearer, a few weeks later, we'll celebrate its 50th anniversary, the golden jubilee of this glorious golden page."

He said the whole nation will feel proud and courageous to hear about the victorious tale of their heroes, which will provide the new and future generations an opportunity to become inspired by this strength.
