With the last span installation, the Padma Multipurpose Bridge is now 6,150 metres long and ranks just over the Oland Bridge of Sweden.

Padma Bridge is the 122nd longest bridge in the world, according to Wikipedia. 

As Bangladesh launches the new extensions of the Padma bridges, let's have a look at some of the longest bridges around the world-

The Danyang-Kunshan Grand Bridge

According to the Guinness world records, the Danyang-Kunshan Grand Bridge located in Beijing –shanghai is the longest bridge in the world. This remarkable 164,800 metres bridge was built in 2010 in China as a High-speed rail.

A close second, world's longest bridge is the Changhua Kaohsiung Viaduct, located in Taiwan. This bridge was built in 2004 and stretches up to 157,317 metres.

Narrowing in on the longest water bridges, we have the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway that comes in as number one as the longest bridge over water (continuous), reports the Guinness World Records. The American bridge built in 1969 racks up a total length of 38,442 metres.

Hong Kong–Zhuhai–Macau Bridge

The Guinness World Records has divided the bridge over water category into two; continuous and aggregate. Hong-Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge ranks number one in the continuous list. It is a motorway bridge which is 22,900 metres in length, located in China.
