Developments in Venezuela a matter of 'deep concern': India
The ministry said India “reaffirms its support to the well-being and safety of the people of Venezuela” and called on all concerned parties to resolve issues peacefully
India has described the recent developments in Venezuela, following the capture of President Nicolás Maduro by US forces, as a matter of "deep concern", marking its first official reaction to the situation.
"Recent developments in Venezuela are a matter of deep concern. We are closely monitoring the evolving situation," the Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement.
The ministry said India "reaffirms its support to the well-being and safety of the people of Venezuela" and called on all concerned parties to resolve issues peacefully.
"We call upon all concerned to address issues peacefully through dialogue, ensuring peace and stability of the region," the statement added.
The Ministry of External Affairs also said the Indian Embassy in Caracas is in contact with members of the Indian community in Venezuela and will continue to provide all possible assistance as the situation evolves.
Meanwhile, India's main opposition Congress expressed "grave concern" over the US action in Venezuela.
Congress General Secretary of Communications Jairam Ramesh said in a post on X that the party expresses very grave concern on US actions relating to Venezuela in the past 24 hours.
"Settled principles of international law cannot be violated unilaterally," reads the post.
