Bangladesh, Trinidad and Tobago to establish bilateral consultation mechanism

Bangladesh and Trinidad and Tobago signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in New York on Wednesday (23 September) to establish a bilateral consultation mechanism between the two countries.
State Minister for Foreign Affairs Humaiun Kobir and Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs of Trinidad and Tobago SM Sobers, MP, signed the MoU on behalf of their respective countries.
During the meeting, Kobir expressed Bangladesh's strong desire to deepen its friendly relations with Trinidad and Tobago.

He hoped that the MoU would provide a platform to regularly review bilateral relations.
The state minister sought Minister Sobers' support for an early technical meeting involving relevant entities identified by the Trinidad and Tobago side, including the National Gas Company, Atlantic LNG, Phoenix Park Gas Processors and an appropriate ammonia/fertiliser producer, along with relevant Bangladeshi counterparts.
He congratulated Trinidad and Tobago on its election as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for the 2027–2028 term.
Drawing attention to the Rohingya crisis, Kobir said Bangladesh continues to host more than 1.2 million forcibly displaced Rohingyas from Myanmar amid declining humanitarian funding and continuing instability.
Bangladesh seeks Trinidad and Tobago's constructive support, including during its Security Council tenure, for sustained international engagement and the safe, voluntary, dignified and sustainable repatriation of the Rohingyas to their homeland, Myanmar, he said.
