2 Bangladeshis killed in Israeli drone strike in Lebanon, says embassy
The deceased have been identified as Sree Shuvo Kumar Das and Karim Miah
Two Bangladeshi nationals reportedly died on the night of Monday (11 May) in an Israeli drone (airstrike) attack on a residential area in Maifadoun, Nabatieh in southern Lebanon, according to a condolence message issued by the Bangladesh Embassy in Beirut.
The deceased have been identified as Sree Shuvo Kumar Das, son of Suronjon and Shika, from Satkhira, and Karim Miah, son of Kazam Ali and Moyna Begum, from Narsingdi.
Yesterday (13 May), with the assistance of the Lebanese Army and the Lebanese Red Cross, one disfigured body was recovered from the site of the attack, confirmed Mohammad Anwar Hossain, first secretary (Labour) and head of Chancery at the Embassy of Bangladesh in Beirut.
The remains were identified as Sree Shuvo Kumar Das by another Bangladeshi expatriate worker named Rajib.
The body has been kept at Najdeh Hospital in Nabatieh.
It is believed that the body of another Bangladeshi worker, Karim Miah, may still be buried under the rubble at the same site.
However, due to security risks, the Lebanese Army and the Lebanese Red Cross have been unable to continue the recovery operation, Anwar said.
"Efforts are ongoing to coordinate with local authorities regarding the recovery of the remaining body", he added.
