Bernama reported that Mamun was accused of providing support to IS through a Facebook account named "Sahifulla Islam" between 28 July 2023 and 30 April 2024. He was charged under Section 130J(1)(a), which carries a penalty of life imprisonment or up to 30 years in jail, along with a possible fine.

The offence is punishable by up to seven years' imprisonment, a fine, and confiscation of the items involved.
Both men appeared before Judge Datuk Ahmad Kamal Arifin Ismail, who set 12 September for mention of the case to appoint an interpreter. Neither had legal representation.
