Home minister to lead reconstituted committee on law and order
According to the notification, the committee will review the overall security situation and determine necessary measures, while keeping the government informed
The government has reconstituted the core committee to assess the country's law and order and internal security situation, placing Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed as its president.
The development was announced in a notification issued today (21 April), signed by KM Yassir Arafat, deputy secretary of the Political-2 branch of the Ministry of Home Affairs.
According to the notification, the committee will review the overall security situation and determine necessary measures, while keeping the government informed.
The committee includes the senior secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs, inspector general of police, and the heads of key security and intelligence agencies, including the SSF, DGFI, BGB, Ansar and VDP, NSI, NTMC, RAB, Bangladesh Coast Guard, Special Branch, and the Fire Service and Civil Defence.
The Dhaka Metropolitan Police commissioner and a representative from the Armed Forces Division at the rank of brigadier general are also members. An additional secretary (political) from the ministry will serve as member secretary.
Terms of reference
According to the notification, the committee will assess the law and order, internal security situation as required and take effective measures after informing the government.
It will also monitor and review national and state security-related activities and ensure necessary coordination among relevant agencies.
The body will monitor and review the security of the president, prime minister or chief adviser, and other very important persons, and provide timely advice.
It may provide recommendations on other matters if directed by the prime minister or chief adviser; collect, analyse and review relevant information and take decisions accordingly.
Operating procedures
The committee may request any official to attend meetings, if necessary; the committee president may convene meetings at any time, said the notification.
Minutes, decisions and recommendations will be recorded and communicated to relevant authorities where applicable; the home minister may assign specific tasks to any member or their organisation as needed, it added.
All activities, discussions and decisions must remain strictly confidential, with limited disclosure permitted only with the committee president's consent.
