Where did the conflict between Pakistan and Afghanistan begin?
The border between Pakistan and Afghanistan is once again tense. The root cause of this is the Durand Agreement of 1893 and a long-standing conflict. After 9/11, terrorist attacks on the border and the rise of the TTP have increased. Pakistan is carrying out airstrikes, which the Afghan government is condemning as a violation of international law. Trustworthy mediators, such as Qatar and Saudi Arabia, are needed to reduce tensions. Genuine will from the leaders of both countries is essential for peace. Interdependence due to history and geography needs to be exploited. No one in the region can tolerate another war.
