Building large-sized trawlers without institutional knowledge!
During the medieval period, Chittagong was one of the major centers for wooden shipbuilding in the world. At that time, wooden ships were exported from Chittagong to various countries in Europe and the Middle East. However, as time passed and iron ships replaced wooden ones, Chittagong's shipbuilding industry lost its prominence by the mid-nineteenth century. Nonetheless, on the banks of the Karnaphuli River in Chittagong, a small group of artisans still preserve this tradition.
