Russia had planned to capture Pokrovsk, a key logistics city in Ukraine's Donetsk region, by November 2024. But in reality, they are a year behind schedule. The vastly outnumbered Ukrainian defenders are holding the Donbass with terrifying tenacity—and in contrast, more than 20,000 Russian soldiers are being killed each month. Now, Russia appears to be on the verge of taking control of the devastated city of Pokrovsk; it is sending more troops into the city's shattered buildings, and Russian drones are cutting off Ukrainian forces' supply lines.
