Bangladesh to become a cyber security hub: State minister for ICT

Bangladesh will become an international cyber security hub in future and will be made digitally secure, said Zunaid Ahmed Palak, state minister for Information and Communication Technology (ICT) on Tuesday.

He said, "Information technology is now one of the main war weapons in the present era, as one country can easily make a devastating attack on another country using cyber systems, and damage national wealth, launder money, etc."

He made the remarks during a prize-giving ceremony of "National Cyber Drill 2020" organised by the government's e-Government Computer Incident Response Team on the occasion of Digital Bangladesh Day at ICT tower in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar.

SiliconBitys won first place in the contest, while The Infinity Bytes and Heidall won second and third place, respectively. 

The state minister said, "By the contributions of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and ICT Affairs Adviser Sajeeb Wazed Joy we have made Bangladesh strong in ICT infrastructure. Bangladesh's rank has already improved on the international cyber security index from 73 to 65."

"The government has formed a cyber response team and acquired three acres of land for cyber security activities in Gazipur," he added.

Palak said information technology is now reducing poverty and empowering people with facilities such as e-commerce, e-payment, mobile banking, etc.

The government has been trying to establish Bangladesh as a middle income country by 2021 and a developed country by 2041 by implementing the goals of Digital Bangladesh.

"To fulfil this target, the government is working relentlessly: making the national power system affordable, ensuring national security and political stability, formulating policy, and developing infrastructure and skilled manpower," the state minister concluded.
