A humanoid robot training for the 2026 World Humanoid Robot Games in China crashed into a wall during a running drill, with footage of the mishap going viral online.
The robot appeared to lose control before slamming into the wall. The impact caused its body to bend, making it appear to almost split in half, while sparks flew from the machine.
The incident occurred as preparations are underway for the 2026 Games, which are scheduled to feature 50 events and are expected to draw 666 teams and more than 2,000 robots.

Returning to China after its inaugural edition in Beijing in 2025, the competition features Olympic-style sporting events for humanoid robots, as well as activities such as dancing and ceremonial roles traditionally performed by humans, including carrying flags.
The inaugural games brought together participants from 16 countries.
The viral crash offers a glimpse of the challenges involved in developing robots capable of performing complex physical tasks, even as humanoid machines are increasingly being trained for sports and other activities.
