DJI brings Osmo Mobile 8 gimbal with improved stabilisation
With improved tracking, creative shooting modes and a modular design, DJI’s newest mobile gimbal turns a phone into a capable video rig
The Osmo Mobile 8 is the latest iteration of DJI's popular smartphone gimbals. The series has a name for providing great stabilisation and features — and the new one goes even further.
According to Android Authority, the first thing you notice is its ease of use. You clip the phone into the holder, line up the indicators and unfold the gimbal. It balances itself in seconds.
The design hides a few surprises: Tripod legs sit neatly at the base, although they are easy to miss at first. The extendable head adds flexibility for framing and different shooting styles. For solo filmmakers, these small touches come in handy.

The Osmo Mobile 8 offers several shooting modes. Pan follow and pan tilt follow feel natural and predictable. FPV mode adds more movement for creative shots. The spin shot mode stands out with controlled camera spins while moving forward or backward, adding energy to otherwise simple scenes. A new 360-degree rotation mode builds on this, letting the gimbal track a subject and rotate fully as they move.
Stabilisation is also excellent — once mounted, a smartphone suddenly produces smooth, flowing footage. Walking shots lose their shake and gain a calm, cinematic feel. It takes a little bit of practice, but the results are impressive.
At just 370 grams, the gimbal is light and comfortable for long sessions. Battery life reaches up to ten hours without accessories.
