Wrexham seal promotion to the Championship in front of Hollywood owners
Wrexham have become the first club in English football’s top five divisions to achieve three consecutive promotions. Just five years after Reynolds and McElhenney's surprise acquisition of the club.

Wrexham secured a historic third consecutive promotion with a dominant 3-0 victory over Charlton, sealing their place in the Championship in front of their Hollywood owners, Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds, on Saturday.
In front of a sell-out crowd at the Racecourse Ground, the Welsh club took the lead in the 16th minute through Ollie Rathbone, who slotted the ball into the bottom corner. Just two minutes later, Matty James provided an assist for Sam Smith, who volleyed in from close range to double Wrexham's advantage.
Wrexham completed their promotion with another clinical finish just under 10 minutes before the final whistle. Max Cleworth delivered a pinpoint cross to Smith, who guided the ball into the back of the net, sparking wild celebrations from McElhenney and Reynolds in the stands.
Reynolds, sporting a Wrexham sweatshirt, embraced his wife, actress Blake Lively, as fans in the 12,774-strong crowd stormed the pitch to join the players in celebrating their achievement.
Wrexham have become the first club in English football's top five divisions to achieve three consecutive promotions. Just five years after Reynolds and McElhenney's surprise acquisition of the club, Wrexham have now set their sights on reaching the Premier League, just one promotion away.
The pair, stars of Deadpool and It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, have transformed the previously unfashionable club, which was languishing in the fifth-tier National League before their celebrity takeover. Their journey has been documented in the Disney+ series Welcome To Wrexham, bringing the club global recognition and a cult following.
Currently second in the League One table, behind champions Birmingham, Wrexham will enjoy their promotion celebrations before their final match of the season.
