When Akram Khan flummoxed Wasim Akram

Bangladesh participated in the 1995 Asia Cup along with India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka which was held at Sharjah, UAE. India went on to win the tournament while Sri Lanka came out second best. However, an interesting incident happened between Pakistan fast bowler Wasim Akram and Bangladesh captain Akram Khan in that tournament.

Three former Bangladesh internationals Akram Khan, Minhajul Abedin and Khaled Mashud joined current ODI skipper Tamim Iqbal in a live conversation on Facebook on Tuesday. Wasim Akram joined them as a special guest. That incident came up during the discussion.

Just before the toss of the Bangladesh- Pakistan game, Wasim casually asked Akram Khan whether he would bat or field if he won the toss. Akram Khan said that he would field. Pakistan had already made a decision to bat first if they won the toss. So Wasim told Akram, "So we are batting first anyway. I am not going to warm up. It's too hot out there."

Bangladesh won the toss and to Wasim's utter surprise, Akram Khan chose to bat. Akram Khan revealed the reason today,  "(Minhajul Abedin) Nannu coaxed me to change my decision. He said that there was no point in putting Pakistan to bat as they could set a nearly impossible target."

After the toss, an enraged Wasim Akram entered the Bangladesh dressing room and scared Akram Khan saying, "Akram, I will see you on the field."

Wasim Akram claimed two wickets giving away 25 runs in that match as Pakistan went on to win the game comprehensively by six wickets.
