Tamim XI lost their 'semi-final' match by 7 runs in D/L method and missed out on the chance to reach the final. Dramas at the death opened the door for Mahmudullah XI to play in the all important final.
Tamim XI needed 165 runs from 41 overs and were going smoothly, but eventually lost the match and were eliminated. Tamim XI were very much in the game until the skipper got out after his fifty, and things turned around dramatically.
Tamim's fifty eased off the early pressure
Today was a must-win match for Tamim XI. They had to win the match by any means to reach the final. 165, though looks was, was a tricky target to chase down. Tamim lost his opening partner Anamul Haque early but built a fine 68-run partnership with the youngster Mahidul Islam Ankon. Ankon was run out from a fine throw from Taskin Ahmed. Tamim reached his fifty but got out scoring 57 off 85 balls.
No other batsmen seemed to be under control and made the chase look harder than it actually was. Under-19 world cup winning captain Akbar Ali failed to showcase his ability in yet another chance he got tonight.
Breakthroughs at the right time turned things around
Tamim XI were going pretty well in the chase. But Najmul XI bowlers had other plans in mind. They provided important breakthroughs when things seemed like a walk in the park for Tamim XI and made the game interesting.
Abu Jayed Rahi picked up skipper Tamim Iqbal who scored a brilliant fifty and suddenly things turned around dramatically. The following batsmen could not stay long and scored at a slow rate which built a mountain of pressure on Tamim XI.
Taskin was pick of the bowler with a figure of 8-0-36-4. His quick wickets in the middle were pivotal in the win for Najmul XI in the end. Al Amin Hossain, Nasum Ahmed, and Abu Jayed Rahi picked up a wicket each.
Earlier, Saifuddin picked up the only fifer of the tournament so far helping his team to bowl out Najmul XI for 165 runs in 39.3 overs. Mushfiq scored yet another half-century, accompanied well by Afif Hossain Dhrubo. Mushi however injured himself while fielding, but the injury is not serious according to the team manager Jamal Uddin.
Taskin Ahmed was adjudged man of the match for his brilliant bowling. Mushfiqur Rahim was named the best batsman while Saifuddin was the best bowler of the match.
The final will be held on Friday. Najmul XI and Mahmudullah XI will be facing each other once again.
