Sri Lanka's Kamindu Mendis has been honoured with the ICC Emerging Men's Cricketer of the Year Award for 2024, capping off a stellar year in which the multi-talented all-rounder delivered remarkable performances across formats.

Mendis, aged 26, showcased his exceptional skills throughout 2024, amassing 1,451 runs across formats at an average of over 50.

In 2024, Mendis scored over 1,000 Test runs, recording the highest batting average for the year. His contributions included five centuries and five half-centuries, with standout performances in the home Test series against New Zealand, where Sri Lanka secured a clean sweep. Mendis' ability to anchor the innings and build partnerships was pivotal as Sri Lanka posted significant totals throughout the year.

His performances earned him a spot in the ICC Men's Test Team of the Year for 2024, solidifying his reputation as one of the most promising talents in world cricket.

Mendis emerged as the winner of the prestigious award, edging out contenders such as Pakistan's Saim Ayub, England's Gus Atkinson, and West Indies' Shamar Joseph. This recognition highlights his rise as a vital player for Sri Lanka and positions him as a key figure heading into 2025.

Mendis is renowned for his unique abilities, being one of the few cricketers who can bat and bowl effectively with either hand. He bowls both off-spin and arm balls, a skill that often confounds opposition batters. Additionally, his switch-hits and reverse-sweeps are a treat for spectators, further cementing his reputation as a versatile and dynamic player.
