Shakib suddenly in BCB premises, may play from tomorrow

Shakib Al Hasan was suspended for three matches and fined BDT 5 lakh for kicking, throwing stumps and misbehaving with the umpires during a DPL match against Abahani.  His team Mohammedan Sporting Club have already played three matches in the DPL  after Shakib's punishment came into effect. 

Mohammedan have already qualified for the Super League after they had won the Super Over against Khelaghar Samaj Kalyan Samity. The team will face Gazi Group Cricketers in the final group stage game on Thursday at Mirpur. Shakib, the regular captain of Mohammedan, might return to the field with this match, according to sources close to the team.

Shakib left the BCB's bio-safety zone after he was banned. He was busy shooting an advertisement on June 12. He now will have to re-enter the bio-secure bubble after passing the Covid test. Shakib appeared in the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) office on Wednesday to get himself tested. If the result is negative, he will be eligible to enter the bio-secure bubble. 

The veteran cricketer spent four hours in the BCB office and met many people. The Business Standard learned that the Bangladesh all-rounder went to the BCB office not only to give samples for the Covid-19 test but also for some other work.

After the BCB board meeting on Wednesday, the BCB president said that although the draft had been prepared, discussions with the cricketers were still pending. He added that the new contract would be finalised after getting a clear idea of which player is interested in playing which format. The BCB also sought Shakib's opinion.

Shakib underwent Covid-19 screening on Monday and tested negative. If Wednesday's report is negative, Shakib will be able to join the Mohammedan team in the bio-secure bubble on the night itself.
