Shakib Al Hasan barred from bowling in all competitions following ECB suspension

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has confirmed that all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has been suspended from bowling in international cricket and domestic competitions outside Bangladesh due to a flawed bowling action.

This suspension, effective immediately, follows the results of an independent assessment at an ICC-accredited testing centre in the United Kingdom.

The BCB's announcement comes after Shakib was barred from participating in tournaments under the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB).

The ECB had flagged concerns over his action following his appearance for Surrey in the County Championship last September, where umpires raised suspicions.

This marked the first instance of his bowling action being questioned since his debut in 2006.

In a media release, the BCB stated:

"The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has been informed that National Team all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has been suspended from bowling in competitions under the jurisdiction of the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB). As a result, Shakib is also suspended from bowling in domestic cricket competitions outside Bangladesh and in international cricket. This suspension follows the outcome of an independent assessment conducted at an International Cricket Council (ICC) accredited testing centre in the United Kingdom.

In accordance with clause 11.3 of the ICC regulations for illegal bowling actions, when a National Cricket Federation suspends a player from bowling in its domestic cricket competitions, the suspension is automatically recognised and enforced by the ICC in international cricket and by all National Cricket Federations in their respective domestic competitions. This applies immediately upon receipt of official notice, without the need for further formalities.

The BCB also understands that, as per clause 11.4 of the ICC regulations, Shakib may undergo further analysis at an ICC-accredited testing centre. Should the results of this analysis clear his action, Shakib will be permitted to bowl in international cricket and in domestic cricket competitions under the jurisdiction of all National Cricket Federations.

While Shakib is currently unable to bowl, he remains eligible to continue playing as a batsman in all forms of domestic and international cricket. The BCB is aware that Shakib will soon appear for reassessment at an accredited testing centre in an effort to have his bowling action cleared.

The BCB is in regular contact with the ECB, the ICC, and the player during this process. No further comments on the matter will be made by the BCB at this time."

Following testing on 2 December, the ECB received the results on 10 December, confirming irregularities in his action.
