Ruben Amorim has been sacked as Manchester United manager after 14 months in charge.
His final match was Sunday's 1-1 draw against rivals Leeds United. Following the game, Amorim reportedly told United's director of football Jason Wilcox and the club's scouting department to "do their jobs", stating that he wanted to be allowed to act as the "manager, not the coach".
Amorim was officially announced as United's head coach when he arrived from Sporting CP 14 months ago, a title that reflected the club's current football structure.
The Portuguese coach has already said his goodbyes and has left United's training ground.
Former Manchester United midfielder Darren Fletcher, who is currently an under-18s coach at the club, is set to take charge of the first team on an interim basis.
In a statement released earlier today, Manchester United said:
"Ruben Amorim has departed his role as Head Coach of Manchester United.
Ruben was appointed in November 2024 and led the team to a UEFA Europa League final in Bilbao in May.
With Manchester United sitting sixth in the Premier League, the club's leadership has reluctantly made the decision that it is the right time to make a change. This will give the team the best opportunity of the highest possible Premier League finish.
The club would like to thank Ruben for his contribution and wishes him well for the future.
Darren Fletcher will take charge of the team against Burnley on Wednesday."
