Raphinha extends Barcelona contract until 2028

Barcelona winger Raphinha has signed a one-year contract extension to remain at the club until 30 june, 2028, following a stellar season that saw him play a key role in the Catalan side's domestic treble triumph.

The 28-year-old Brazilian, whose previous deal was set to expire in 2027, enjoyed a remarkable campaign under Hansi Flick, scoring 34 goals and supplying 25 assists in 56 appearances across all competitions.

"Barcelona and Raphinha have reached an agreement for the renewal of his contract, which will link him to the club until 30 june, 2028," the club confirmed in a statement on Thursday, 15 may.

Raphinha was instrumental in Barça's title-winning efforts in La Liga, the Copa del Rey and the Spanish Super Cup. He also impressed on the European stage, finishing as the joint top scorer in the Champions League with 13 goals, despite the team's semi-final exit at the hands of Inter Milan.

Among his standout performances were a hat-trick against Bayern Munich in the group stage and a decisive brace in the Clásico win over Real Madrid, which all but secured the league title for Barcelona.

His renewal follows the extension of head coach Hansi Flick's contract until 2027, announced the previous day. Rising star Lamine Yamal, 17, is also expected to sign a new deal in the coming weeks. His agent Jorge Mendes told reporters on Thursday that "he will renew soon", after having lunch with the player in the outskirts of Barcelona.

Raphinha and Yamal have terrorised defences on either wing, flanking veteran forward Robert Lewandowski. Barcelona have scored 99 goals in 37 La Liga matches and aim to surpass the century mark when they visit Athletic Bilbao on the final day of the season, sunday, 18 may.

Since his £55 million move from Leeds United in 2022, Raphinha has continued to grow in stature at the Camp Nou. Although his future at the club appeared uncertain following a mixed 2023–24 campaign, Flick's arrival convinced him to stay—and now, commit further.
