No matter what people say, the people who love football support me: Salahuddin

Anti-Salahuddin hashtags were all over social media. Thousands of such comments were made even in the official Facebook page of the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF). Human chains were held as well to remove him from the supreme chair.

But nothing of these could prevent Kazi Salahuddin from becoming the BFF president for the fourth time. The other competitors were nowhere near Salahuddin in terms of votes as he got 54 more than his closest competitor.

Salahuddin, who has been the BFF president for 12 years now, was delighted to be elected once again. He believes that the people who work for the betterment of football have faith in him and the results suggest exactly that.

The legendary footballer said in the official press conference at Pan Pacific Sonargoan, "I heard a lot of things about the voters on media. I heard that the councilors wouldn't vote for me. In 2008, I got 80 votes. In the previous election, I got 84. This time around I've got 94. You see, the number is increasing. No matter what people say, the people who love football support me. I would like to thank everyone."

A lot of ex-footballers and organisers turned up to the venue apart from the councilors. The current players of the national team also turned up. They congratulated Salahuddin after he was elected.

Salahuddin was particularly happy with this. "My footballers are my strength. All the players of the national team love me. Everyone came to wish me luck. The people who are taking football in the country forward love me. That proves that I have done well," he mentioned.

Salahuddin said that he would try and fulfill the promises made in the 36-point manifesto. "I reckon I can do that. But nothing is a hundred percent perfect in the world. But I will try my best to fulfill all my promises. I want everyone to help me in this regard," Salahuddin concluded.
