NCL: Shamsur Rahman hits ton in rain-interrupted day

Shamsur Rahman of Dhaka Metro hit a ton in the Tier-2 fifth round match of the National Cricket League (NCL) against Sylhet Division on the first day at Shaheed Kamaruzzaman Stadium in Rajshahi on Saturday. 

The match between Dhaka Metro and Sylhet started in time Sylhet sent Dhaka Metro to bat first after winning the toss. 

Dhaka Metro made frustrating start losing the first wicket just in 17 runs. But in the second-wicket stand between Rakin Ahmed and ShamsurRahman added 98 runs to lay a good foundation for Dhaka Metro.

But, a poor batting by captain Marshall Ayub and wicketkeeper-batsman ZabidHossain restricted them to end day-1 on a high note. 

Before the match was interrupted by poor light, Dhaka Metro posted 282 for 7 wickets in 76 overs at the end of the day-1 (Saturday) 

One down Shamsur Rahman hammered 114 off 193 with featuring 13 fours, number five  Al-Amin posted 69 off 85 with seven fours and three sixes, opener Rakin Ahmed scored 96-ball 69 runs hitting seven fours while lower-order Sharifullah made not out 21 off 28 balls with three fours. 

Rejaur Rahman bagged four wickets for 49 runs Sylhet while Enamul Haque Jnr took three for 69 runs 

Brief score: Dhaka Metro first innings: 282/7 in 76 overs, Shamsur 114, Al Amin 69, Rakin 48, Sharifullah 21*, Nihaduzzam 0*, Rejaur 4/49, Enamul 3/69. 

In the day's Tier-1 league match, SohrawordiShuvo hit fifty for RangpurDivison against Dhaka Division at ShaheedChandu Stadium in Bogra on Saturday. 

The match was delay start at 11:30 am due to wet outfield. Dhaka won the toss and opted to bowl first. 

Rangpur lost two wickets before adding anything on the board. Right-arm pacer Shahadat Hossain bagged the first wicket while SalahuddinSakib took the second without conceding any run. 

However, in the third wicket stand, Rangpur added 80 runs riding on a half-century by Sohrawordi Shuvo, who scored 57 off 96 with 11 fours before he was dismissed by Nazmul Islam. 

Rangpur scored 110 for 5 in 41 overs before the match was stopped at 4:20 due to bad light at the venue. 

Shahadat and Shakil bagged two wickets each for Dhaka Division. 

Brief score: Rangpur first innings: 1110/5 in 41 overs, Sohrawordi 57, Naeem Islam 23, Nasir 5*, TanbirHyder 6*, Shahadat 2/33, Shakil 2/32

The other two 5th round matches between Khulna Division and Rajshahi Division in Dhaka, and Barishal Division and Chattogram Division in Barishal could not start due to rain following the effect of the cyclone Bulbul.
