Litton das joins Gulshan Cricket Club while Mustafizur Rahman remains without a team

Bangladesh wicketkeeper-batsman Litton Das has finally secured a team for the Dhaka Premier League (DPL), just a day before the tournament's start on 3 march.

Litton will represent the newly formed Gulshan Cricket Club, partially owned by former national team captain Tamim Iqbal.

Litton's struggles to find a team stemmed from disagreements over his remuneration. Despite holding a token for a transfer after leaving Abahani, negotiations with other clubs fell through due to financial disagreements. Ultimately, Gulshan Cricket Club stepped in, offering him a spot. Confirming the move, Tamim said, "Litton has found a team. He will play for Gulshan."

In contrast, Mustafizur Rahman, another national team star, remains unsigned. Similar to Litton, his situation also revolves around payment issues, as the average remuneration in this season's DPL has significantly dropped—reportedly to half or less of the previous year's rates.

Tamim expressed his disappointment at Mustafizur's uncertain status, stating, "It's very unfortunate if this is the case. They are national stars and should definitely be part of this tournament. The Dhaka Premier League is the backbone of Bangladesh cricket. I hope one of the big clubs will take him. Performers like them deserve to play in this league."

Gulshan Cricket Club, which focuses on young talent and includes several under-19 players, will be coached by former Bangladesh cricketer Khaled Mahmud Sujon. Tamim believes Litton's experience will benefit the club's younger players, saying, "It's a great opportunity for the young players at Gulshan to learn from Litton."

With Litton now in place, the attention shifts to whether Mustafizur can also find a team before the league kicks off. Tamim emphasised that a player of Mustafizur's calibre not playing in the league would be a missed opportunity, adding, "He is one of our best performers, and I hope a club will step forward to sign him."

The Dhaka Premier League will begin with Abahani facing Agrani Bank at 9 am in Mirpur, while Mohammedan takes on Gulshan Youth, and Prime Bank meets Rupganj Tigers in matches at the BKSP grounds.
