Harry Brook handed two-year IPL ban after late withdrawal
The 26-year-old, seen as a strong contender to succeed Jos Buttler as England’s white-ball captain, had been signed by Delhi Capitals for the IPL season starting on 22 March.

England's Harry Brook has been banned from the Indian Premier League for two years after pulling out of the upcoming season at the last minute to prioritise international cricket, according to reports in Indian media on 8 March.
The 26-year-old, seen as a strong contender to succeed Jos Buttler as England's white-ball captain, had been signed by Delhi Capitals for the IPL season starting on 22 March. However, Brook opted out, citing the need to "recharge" and focus on international commitments.
This is the second consecutive year Brook has withdrawn from the franchise. Last season, he pulled out following the death of his grandmother.
An official from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) told The Indian Express that the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has been notified of the ban. The official added that players were informed of this policy before registering for the IPL auction, with the rule intended to deter overseas players from withdrawing late from the lucrative T20 tournament. While exceptions can be made, they are generally limited to injuries.
Brook issued a public apology on social media, expressing his regret to Delhi Capitals and their supporters for his withdrawal.
The England batter previously played in the 2023 IPL for Sunrisers Hyderabad, where he made headlines with a blistering 55-ball century against Kolkata Knight Riders.
The 2025 IPL season begins with defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders hosting Royal Challengers Bengaluru at Eden Gardens.
