Blunt Bangladesh suffers disappointing 1-0 defeat against Maldives
Despite dominating possession and creating several attacking opportunities, the hosts were unable to capitalise on their chances.

Bangladesh's opening match of the current FIFA window ended in disappointment, as they suffered a 1-0 loss to the Maldives on Wednesday at the Bashundhara Kings Arena.
Despite dominating possession and creating several attacking opportunities, the hosts were unable to capitalise on their chances, with poor finishing costing them dearly. The only goal of the match came from Maldives' Ali Fasir in the 16th minute, leaving Bangladesh with no way back after multiple missed opportunities.
From the start, Bangladesh were on the front foot, relentlessly attacking the Maldives' defensive third. Morsalin and Rakib were the primary forwards, repeatedly making runs into the Maldives box and creating scoring chances.
However, despite their efforts, Bangladesh struggled with finishing, and what should have been an equaliser instead remained a missed opportunity.
The most glaring example of this came in the second half. Morsalin, particularly, was unable to find the back of the net despite being in promising positions.
In the 77th minute, his weak shot was comfortably saved by Maldives goalkeeper Hussein Sharif. Then, in the 85th minute, Morsalin had another opportunity, but once again failed to convert.
These missed chances became a defining feature of the match, with Bangladesh unable to finish the attacks they had worked so hard to create.
There were a couple of bright moments, however. Sohel Rana's brilliant left-footed shot from outside the box in the 43rd minute almost brought Bangladesh level, but the ball ricocheted off the post. Similarly, in the 74th minute, Jonny's attempt was blocked by Sharif, but these moments were few and far between, with Bangladesh unable to break the deadlock.
The Maldives' only goal came in the 16th minute when Ali Fasir's header from a free-kick beat Bangladesh goalkeeper Mitul Marmar.
The Maldives had already shown signs of being dangerous before that goal, as Naiz Hassan intercepted a pass from Hridoy just outside the box, but Mitul was on hand to deny him. Shortly after, Bangladesh had two shots in quick succession, but neither found the target. In the 26th minute, another promising chance was wasted when the forwards miscommunicated.
Morsalin had a shot in the 29th minute, but it went wide, and in the 33rd minute, Rakib failed to convert despite creating a solid opportunity.
Just before the break, Bangladesh had a free-kick opportunity, with Morsalin delivering a well-placed ball for captain Tapu, who managed a header, but it sailed just wide of the post.
In the second half, the hosts pushed forward, determined to find an equaliser. Wave after wave of attack followed, yet Bangladesh was unable to break the Maldives defence.
With time running out, the team was awarded an additional 7 minutes, but despite relentless pressure, they could not convert.
The match ended with a 1-0 defeat, leaving Bangladesh frustrated after dominating the game without any reward for their efforts.
