Gazi Cricketers defeat Mohammedan by 65 runs
In a thrilling encounter at the Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League (DPL), Gazi Cricketers emerged victorious by 65 runs, moving to second in the standings after a dominant performance against Mohammedan Sporting Club. Anamul Haque Bijoy played the starring role, scoring an unbeaten 149, while Tofayel Ahmed's blistering 63 runs off 29 balls in the final overs ensured Gazi posted a massive 336/5. Mohammedan had a solid start, with openers Rony Talukdar (74) and Tamim Iqbal (48), but the chase faltered as the middle order failed to capitalize. Taskin Ahmed, the Mohammedan pacer, had a forgettable day, conceding 107 runs in his 10 overs, setting a new record for the most expensive bowling figures in DPL history. Gazi's bowlers capitalized on the expensive runs, with Abdul Gaffar Saklayen picking up four wickets and Abu Hashim adding two. Mohammedan's chase eventually ended at 271 all out, with only Mushfiqur Rahim (49) offering any resistance. Gazi Cricketers' victory was a result of their well-rounded performance, with both bat and ball, and they now find themselves in a strong position in the league.
Abahani Limited maintain top spot with Shanto's century
Abahani Limited secured a crucial 4-wicket win over Rupganj, remaining at the top of the DPL points table. Despite a solid foundation from Saif Hasan (50) and Mahmudul Hasan Joy (58), Rupganj's total of 292 never seemed enough against a determined Abahani side. The chase started poorly for Abahani, as they lost Parvez Hossain Emon early. However, captain Najmul Hossain Shanto led from the front with a spectacular century, his first of the season. Shanto's 101 runs off 105 balls anchored the chase, with valuable contributions from Jisan Alam (43) and Mohammad Mithun (34). After Shanto was dismissed, Abahani still needed another 43 runs with just three wickets in hand, but they managed to get over the line thanks to solid lower-order performances. The victory helped Abahani stay atop the points table, showcasing their depth and resilience in tight situations. Rupganj, despite fighting hard, couldn't defend their total, and Abahani's balanced team effort sealed the win. Abahani's continuing strong run in the tournament has established them as the team to beat.
Prime Bank dominate Dhanmondi in a 55-run victory
Prime Bank Cricket Club cruised to a comfortable 55-run win over Dhanmondi Sports Club in the Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League. After winning the toss and opting to bat, Prime Bank posted a daunting 308/5, powered by key contributions from their top order. Naim Sheikh got them off to a fast start with a rapid 37 off 18 balls before Zakir Hasan (64 off 86) and Sabbir Hossain (50 off 70) consolidated the innings. Towards the end, Irfan Sukkur (56 off 52) and Shamim Hossain Patwari (62 off 37) exploded in the final overs, adding a quick 96-run partnership to propel the total past 300. Dhanmondi's bowlers, particularly Moin Khan, who took 3 wickets, struggled to contain the onslaught. In their chase of 309, Dhanmondi's innings never gained momentum, despite a determined effort from Fazle Mahmud Rabbi, who top-scored with 79 runs off 104 balls. Yasir Ali Chowdhury (46) looked set for a half-century but was dismissed before reaching the mark. The middle and lower order failed to build partnerships, and Dhanmondi's chase fizzled out as they were bowled out for 253. Prime Bank's disciplined bowling attack, led by Moin Khan's three wickets, ensured a straightforward victory. The result kept Prime Bank firmly in the hunt for the top positions in the DPL, demonstrating their all-around strength.
