Competitive cricket in Bangladesh has been on hold since March due to the outbreak of Covid-19 pandemic. Cricketers have been indoors since then though they are trying hard to maintain fitness.

Staying away from cricket for such a long time has been really tough for them. Especially the youngsters and female cricketers have been really worried. That's why the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is going to appoint a psychologist to monitor the mental health of the cricketers.

For now, BCB is planning five virtual sessions each for the under-19 team and the women's team. BCB has already contacted Ali Khan, a Canada-based psychologist.

Debashish Chowdhury, the chief physician of BCB, said that the sessions may start on Saturday involving the players of under-19 and women's team as well as the supporting staff. He also informed that similar sessions will be conducted involving the High Performance (HP) team and the national team if the campaign becomes successful.

"We have got the green signal from the CEO regarding the virtual sessions. Now I'll talk to Ali Khan about the logistics. It'll probably take three-four days to fix everything. I expect the sessions to begin on Saturday," Debashish Chowdhury told The Business  Standard.

"We have decided to appoint him because he is from Bangladesh and he speaks Bengali. So there won't be any language barrier. Also, he understands our cricketing culture very well, having worked with the national team previously," he added.
