So close, yet so far. Ruman Sana and Diya Siddique reached Bangladesh's first-ever final in Archery World Cup. Expectations were high on them. But they couldn't bring the gold home.

Diya Siddiqui and Ruman Shana of Bangladesh won the silver medal in the recurve mixed event at the second stage of the 2021 Hyundai Archery World Cup at Lausanne, Switzerland on Sunday.

The duo faced Netherland's Gaby Schloesser and Sjef van den Berg where they were defeated by 5-1 on Sunday in the recurve edition of the event

This is however Bangladesh's best result in Archery World Cup.

The second-ranked Dutch pair scored 17 (9+8) in the first set. Experienced Ruman looked nervous and scored just seven before Diya yielded the same number of points.

The second set was better for the Bangladeshi pair as they earned 16 but the Dutch pair overtook them.

The 17-year old Diya looked solid and determined in the third and fourth set but despite her shooting 18 those sets ended with a stalemate of each side earning 35 points apiece.

The Dutch side clinched the gold medal by winning the last pair of sets by 37-34 but the teenager Diya ended with silver and future promises while Ruman, the number one archer of Bangladesh, seemed to gain his confidence back for the Olympics.

Earlier, 17th-ranked Bangladesh beat 16th-ranked Iran 5-3, upset top-ranked Germany 5-1 in the pre-quarterfinal. Bangladesh then defeated Spain by 5-4 set points to reach to the semifinal and finally confirmed their spot in the final for the first time defeating Canada by 5-3 set points in the semifinal.
