Zahid Hasan’s captivating comeback
Veteran actor Zahid Hasan makes a triumphant return to the screen with Raihan Rafi’s ‘Amalnama’

With a career spanning across decades, veteran actor Zahid Hasan never fails to bring something new to the table.
However, given his recent hiatus, the National Films Award-winning actor's role in 'Amalnama' seemed like the perfect film to satisfy fans who longed to see him back on screen.
Released on 13 March, the Raihan Rafi-directed web film has recently caused quite a stir online. Though the film's promotion had emphasised repeatedly that it had only been "inspired" by true events, viewers could not help but connect the dots of the film's plot to its alleged inspiration.
Zahid portrays Imran, an officer torn in half between his duties at work and his responsibility towards his wife, who is also a mother-to-be.
The plot of 'Amalnama' centres around Hasan, played by Kamruzzaman Kamu, who has left drug trading for good, and his family. One night, he is mysteriously abducted from his home by people who claim to be police officers, leaving his family in distress.
On the other side, Imran juggles this case while worried about his wife. The web film features a star-studded cast including Tama Mirza and Sarika Sabrin, and more.
However, Zahid feels like this story goes beyond its plot.
"'Amalnama' isn't just about murder and justice, it is a reflection of one's deeds. I feel like everyone should be mindful about their actions because if you do something bad today, in one way or another, it will come back to you," reflected Zahid.
What goes around comes around, and it looks like all of Zahid's hard work is reaping its rewards with all the positive feedback the actor has received.
"The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. People have shared that they have missed me and that they want to see me in more content, especially quality content like this film," commented Zahid.
Viewers have watched the star transition from television to streaming platforms, but the quality of his roles never faltered, and 'Amalnama' was no exception.
One of the reasons why the actor has struck a chord with viewers across generations is because of how selective he is with the roles themselves.
"I don't feel compelled to take on a role if I don't like the character. I've been working in the industry for a long time, so I have liberty in selecting roles only when the character challenges me," shared the actor.
His answer rings true with his role as Imran, who turns out to be a multifaceted character—leaving viewers debating which side of the coin the character's loyalty lies on throughout the film.
Aside from playing interesting characters, the actor has also sat in the director's chair for countless productions since 2010 such as, 'Lal Neel Beguni' and 'Emotional Abdul Matin'.
With years of experience in different roles in productions, the actor has practically seen the industry grow. Through technological changes and cultural shifts, he has witnessed it all.
Throughout all these years though, actor Zahid feels like the industry is experiencing its most unstable period now.
"Back in the day the industry was television-centric, films were very popular, and artistes could get by as they remained involved in dramas. But now, it isn't focused on any particular medium—not TV, film, or even OTT," stated actor Zahid.
"We are going through a difficult time, it's like we are in no man's land right now."
Many have speculated why the actor has shifted to OTT content, such as Chorki's 'Ei Muhurte' (2022) and the recent web film release. However, the answer behind it is quite simple—it is his unwavering dedication towards intriguing characters. His most important qualification for a project is that it has to be of good quality.
The actor isn't quite finished yet with delivering content for his fans. His next release, 'Utshob', directed by Tamim Noor, is slated for release during Eid ul Adha.
For now, though, it's the perfect time to celebrate success for Zahid Hasan—especially with Eid just around the corner, a time he looks forward to spending with his family.
