Sparking DC revival, Gunn's Superman rockets to $56.5m opening

Warner Bros and DC Studios' 'Superman' kicked off with a powerful $56.5 million from Friday and preview screenings, marking the year's second-biggest opening after 'Minecraft' and ahead of 'Lilo & Stitch'. Boosted by early Amazon Prime showings and premium ticket sales, the superhero reboot is expected to finish its opening weekend around $120 million.
Directed by James Gunn, the film introduces David Corenswet as the new Man of Steel, joined by Rachel Brosnahan's Lois Lane and Nicholas Hoult's Lex Luthor. The film also sets up DC's new cinematic universe, making its success crucial for future projects.
Meanwhile, Jurassic World Rebirth took second with $11.3 million on Friday and is set for a $38.7 million weekend, despite a steep drop from last week.
Apple's 'F1' ranked third, adding $3.7 million, while 'How to Train Your Dragon' and Pixar's 'Elio' rounded out the top five. Superman now carries Warner Bros' hopes to reignite its superhero legacy.
