Shah Rukh Khan wins first-ever national award after 33-year career for 'Jawan'
Vikrant Massey of ‘12th Fail’ earns best actor, Rani Mukerji named best actress for "Mrs Chatterjee vs Norway"

Shah Rukh Khan, the king of Bollywood, has won his first-ever National Film Award, earning the Best Actor title for his performance in the blockbuster film "Jawan" at the 71st National Film Awards.
The announcement was made yesterday (1 August) by India's Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.
This long-awaited recognition marks a milestone in the legendary actor's 33-year career. The king of Bollywood made his acting debut in 1992 with "Deewana" and has since become one of the most iconic and globally recognised figures in Indian cinema, reports Hindustan Times.
Despite starring in critically acclaimed films such as "Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge", "Swades", "Chak De! India", and "My Name is Khan", a national award had eluded him -- until now.
"Jawan", directed by Atlee, was both a critical and commercial success, with Shah Rukh's powerful performance winning praise from audiences and critics alike.
Shah Rukh Khan shared the Best Actor honour with Vikrant Massey, who was recognised for his compelling portrayal of civil servant Manoj Kumar Sharma in the biographical drama "12th Fail".
Besides, Rani Mukerji was named Best Actress for her moving role in "Mrs Chatterjee vs Norway", where she plays a mother fighting a foreign government for the custody of her children.
The 71st National Film Awards celebrated films certified in 2023, with Hindi cinema dominating major categories. This year, 332 feature films, 115 non-feature films, 27 books, and 16 film critics' works were considered.
Independent juries appointed by the Directorate of Film Festivals selected the winners.
While Shah Rukh Khan has previously received high civilian honours -- including the "Padma Shri" and France's "Legion of Honour" -- this national award cements his place among the greats in Indian cinematic history.
