A Dhaka court granted bail to Pori Moni after she surrendered a day after an arrest warrant was issued against her in a case over assault and issuing death threats.

The actress appeared at Dhaka Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Court and submitted a bail plea this morning (27 January) and the court granted her bail, her lawyer Nilanjana Rifaat told the media.

Dhaka Senior Judicial Magistrate Md Zunaid passed the order.

Earlier, yesterday (26 January) an arrest warrant was issued against her after the court formally charged her in the case filed by businessman Nasir Uddin Mahmud, as she failed to appear before the court.

The court also framed charges against Pori Moni's costume designer, Junayed Bogdadi Jimmy, in the same case, and a warrant was issued for his arrest as well.

The Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) submitted an investigation report against Pori Moni and Junayed to the CJM Court in April last year.

The CJM Court took the report into account on 18 April 2023.

On 18 July 2022, businessman Nasir Uddin Mahmud filed a complaint with the Dhaka court alleging assault and attempted murder. In the case, he claimed that on 8 June 2021, Pori Moni and her associates entered Savar's Boat Club to use the washroom and later consumed alcohol inside the club. Around 1:15am, as they were leaving, Pori Moni called him over and pressured him to provide a bottle of Blue Label alcohol for free. Upon his refusal, Pori Moni verbally abused him and, at one point, threw a glass at him in an attempt to harm him, hitting his head and chest.

Meanwhile, on 8 June 2021, Pori Moni filed a case against Nasir and six others at Savar police station, alleging attempted rape and murder at Dhaka Boat Club in Birulia, Savar.

After investigating the case, the police submitted a charge sheet against Nasir and three others to the court on 6 September 2022.

The Dhaka Women and Child Repression Prevention Tribunal-9 framed charges against the three accused on 18 May 2022.

According to Pori Moni's lawyer Nilanjana Rifaat, the case is currently at the evidence-recording stage.

Separately, a drug control case involving Pori Moni and two others is ongoing in Dhaka's Special Judge Court-10. This case is also at the evidence-recording stage.
